Well, we'll see what happens but after seeing @vidme go under I'm not sure any competition to YouTube really stands a chance just because of structural reasons. https://medium.com/vidme/goodbye-for-now-120b40becafa …

Fwiw what I would support would be to regulate YouTube like a public utility in some way (just like we do with the Internet & net neutrality). The same goes for other sites like Facebook and Google - anywhere with gigantic traffic, few to no popular alternatives, and where...

people get their news from, I think everyone would be happier if the government regulated them in some way so that they don't act in certain ways. Not sure on the specifics however, but that's the principle. And to be honest, I still don't mind YouTube striking channels for...

doing repugnant conspiracy theories about crisis actors and false flag operations regarding mass shootings. Some of the content on InfoWars is very irresponsible and I think it's fair to be worried that some of it might encourage people to commit acts of violence.

I see where you're coming from, and I suppose your idea about regulating YouTube as a utility is consistent with what the government has regulated in the past. However jumping straight to regulation by a government that definitely doesn't understand the platform worries me.

Yeah, I mean of course we need people with an understanding of the platform in government. For better or worse though at least within congress there are now or will soon be many people who have at least some understanding of how news on YouTube works.

Right. Also to your points about the quality and possible danger of the info wars news methods and ideology, I don't give a shit. They should be free to post what they want and have the viewing populace decide whether or not to watch it. It would be much less frustrating (1/2)

(2/2) if YouTube was cracking down on left wing sensationalist media as well, but they are leftists through and through when it comes to management, so right wing/libertarian politics are being punted regardless of their sensationalist nature.

I wouldn't be certain that the management of YouTube is left-wing or anything, I mean billionares tend to lean quite far right (with exceptions of course). I would note that around the time of this action, CNN did an exposé on whose adverts appeared on InfoWars' videos.

Which i think is fucking underhanded. CNN knew that advertisers have an ass backwards view of the impact their ads have because of the two adpocalypses, and exploited that to crush an entity that speaks out against them. goes to show that YouTube is in bed with the mainstream.

Yeah it was sneaky on CNN's part, and Youtube's management are easily manipulated.
