Poverty increases the chance of people developing an impairment or health condition in childhood or working age adult life; persons with disabilities are disadvantaged in the labour market & hence struggle to secure a living income; disability is linked to extra costs of living..

In sum, poverty begets disability & disability begets poverty. Breaking that cycle requires a comprehensive anti-poverty strategy (which would also include action to reduce the numbers of people who acquire an impairment or health condition for reasons linked to poverty).

A1: disability comes with a huge range of extra expenses, everything from help cleaning the house to specialized cooking equipment, lots more. Folks already living near the edge can't afford much extra. #cripthevote

#CripTheVote A1: Good question: I think the perceptions of disabled people as not equal to non-disabled workers and the Disability Employment Gap are fundamental in linking disability and poverty. Certainly that's why I don't have a job anymore.

#CripTheVote A1: Just today we've had the UK Federation of Small Businesses saying they want a year's exemption from National Insurance payments if they take on a disabled worker, even though it's illegal under Equality Act 2010 to consider disability in an employment decision

War economies thrive on arms production and sales, the prosecution of wars to insure demand for more production and sales. War is hunger, disease, poverty, it is reduction in domestic social safety nets and domestic accessibility infrastructure. War disables humans. #cripthevote

Like, our federal insurance pays a lot, but I'm still expected to pay a fee per medication I need (and I need a lot), and then there's also this aspect that my disabled partner and me can't get married, because his payments would be slashed simply bc I work parttime.

As a woman with epilepsy I can only consider transit accessible jobs--bc I cannot drive myself and the TNCs do not consider ADA compliance mandatory. Therefore my options are limited #cripthevote

I am limited where I can live because the transit agency can remove routes/stops and I am either stuck between really high priced and safe/nice housing or the dangerous and ill-kept properties in high crime areas #cripthevote
