Did a double-take this morning when I saw who authored this obit, then realised it had been on file *that* long. What pleasure to read a 'new' (if somewhat edited) George Melly piece so long after he left us.

It’s my Dad’s 100th Birthday today. He died at 53 in 1976, so will be celebrating on another plane, but I think of him often - and particularly miss him today.

I was lucky enough to work with Ken Connor and he was another 24-carat funny, talented gentleman. Sadly I can’t go but well worth a ticket.

This was the first episode I ever produced. My main memory is that of Graham and the St Luke's Youth Group in the corner of the rehearsal room, practising The Whole of the Moon over and over again, so that this moment (funny even in the script) was absolutely perfect. twitter.com/FrTedQOTD/stat…

Bernard Cribbins could have been given a few seconds of airtime in amongst all the self congratulation in last night’s BAFTA Awards. Goodness knows he was a consummate pro who gave generations of audiences decades of joy across audio, television and film.

#OTD My great-great-aunt Mildred Harnack was beheaded on Hitler’s direct order. Born in Milwaukee, she graduated from the University of Wisconsin & moved to Germany to pursue a PhD. As an American grad student in Berlin, she witnessed a rapid increase in Hitler's popularity. 1/12

I LOVE the Marx brothers and these shows are brilliant. They are produced by @DirkMaggs who I am sure has lots of stories to tell - including when Spike Milligan popped up in an episode. twitter.com/russell_m_olso…

Hitchhikers Series 3-5 BTS: Which is mightier? An audio vs video face-off between myself and the great @kevinjondavies, who has many hours of video coverage of Hitchhikers and Douglas, from the very start (almost). Watch out for his book "42" from @unbounders, coming in August.

And this Anthony Cronin documentary on Brendan Behan, Flann O’Brien and Patrick Kavanagh, now happily available on YouTube, is tremendous too (it was broadcast as a BBC Arena programme some time in the late 1980s) youtu.be/PfNozMdMr3Q
