So much joy in seeing the work that DeAndrea Jones and I put so much sweat and tears into pop up in the Critical Math/Complex Instruction session! Especially during Rosa Parks bday week!

I was reading دحرجة الغبار after a 3 hour research on “how did the Spanish fever impact Syria in the early 20th century?” The summary: while Spanish fever didn’t kill us because the region was under siege (French, and British siege of Ottomans) other things did! Ha! Don’t ask!

Citations are a political act. I'm seeing citations of Dr. Rudine Sims Bishop (yay!), but then folks seem to not realize that there are many BIPOC others who build on her work that we should also be citing. So, here you go so you can .

So thrilled to share with the world my (first ever) co-authored paper! 😊 Working on this piece gave me the chance to discuss and reflect on 2 of my fav things: qual methods and languages & translation issues.

This. I’m not interested in blaming teachers for all societal inequities AND if teachers are not interrogating the ways they reproduce white supremacy in the classroom, that is their responsibility as it is something within their control.

How white liberalism can undermine equity work: We emphasize kindness, we celebrate diversity, we host an anti-bullying assembly, we display an I Have a Dream poster. Maybe we talk about implicit bias, carefully avoiding institutional racism. We check the box. Then we rest.

This definition of academic language is circular (it is language used in academic discussion) and suggests that people don't interpret and infer to discern precise meaning in everyday speech (we do). I really truly believe that we should just stop using the term completely.

Well, just landed at JFK and — no surprise — got taken to the special side room and got asked (among other things) how I feel about the situation with Iran. I wanted to be like: my book comes out in September, preorder now on amazon

What makes an adult look at a child who is experiencing poverty (economic injustice), who is denied healthcare, equitable educational access, access to basic human rights in a society where we have the resources to eliminate poverty, and think, "What you need is grit"...?
