Media folks: What was the name of the company circa 2007 or 8ish that used SEO and churned out content as fast as possible to be high in google search rankings. Raised a lot of money. Based in LA (I think) and Google eventually changed its algo to downrank and they disappeared?

YES!!!! You and have brought back a flood of memories. I imagine the way Google reacted to them, they will eventually do for AI content. Wanted to try and remember the parallel. Thank you.

sad to admit i know this bc during a dry spell of freelancing I tried contributing. if i recall the rate was $15 a pop. i quickly concluded that bartending was more lucrative
