One benefit of ebook readers is that you can read outdoors even when the wind is blowing. Granted, you can do that with paper books as well, if you don't mind gusts of wind having a say on what page you'll read next.

Reminder that in you can use the “help” builtin to get information about Bash builtins. Example: “help popd”. Using the “man” command on a builtin will get you that huge unwieldy page with all the builtins.

My problem with using pushd & popd productively was assuming that changing directories had to be done with popd. But popd is not very useful for that. Instead, changing dirs should be done either by *rotating* the stack with pushd or by using tilde expansions like cd ~3.

Goldilocks went to GitHub & cloned 3 codebases She inspected the 1st one: "This codebase is stringly typed!" Then the 2nd one: "This has singletons and inscrutable type sigs!" And the last one: "Shows a mature understanding of the benefits & limits of the type system"

I have long since stopped putting much effort into getting people to play parser IF, for the low hit rate reasons. And it’s hard to advocate writing because of audience size. But I do still think writing it is one of the best possible design educations

The modern query-based architecture for compilers (the pull-model) in addition to just the regular pipeline architecture (the push model) There's a great video about this from a couple of years ago that introduced me to the difference:
