I don't know about that, they're as much timewaste as any other hobby is. Same with for example playing golf. I think this statement is a bit flawed.

Video games are used as an escape, while I agree they can lead to unhealthy habits of all sorts, calling them a waste of time for most people is incredibly arrogant lol

Yeah, by that logic all entertainment is a waste of time. Don't watch sports, they're fun but you don't get anywhere. Don't listen to music either, they're fun but you don't get anywhere. Pretty bad take from Joe on this one and I enjoy listening to him.
