I tried creating a world called Aria, where music was how magic was used. Small cantrips were done by humming or whistling a candle to light. Giant orchestras would be used as war casters. The protagonists were fighting against apathy and the loss of creativity.
Because different cultures had different musical histories, the kinds of spells cast would be uniquely different. But not having a main villain made it challenging to write about.
