Sorry but how long does she lives in the US? Why does she still have this heavy accent?
I'm no fan of hers but what's the accent have to do with it? My mother is Japanese and has lived in the states since the mid-1970's, has almost only been speaking English and still has a very heavy Japanese accent. Not everyone has linguistic talents.

I knew a woman in the mid '90s that had lived in Australia since the early '50s and still have every inch of her original British Manchester accent.. I asked her about it once... She didn't want to change her accent. for her, it was simply a matter of choice.

No, actually it sometimes shows that the person is unaffected by what others think and has no motivation to change that. My mother lost her accent and even her spontaneous slang through determined effort to fit into a more biased community, but her siblings only softened theirs.
