OK hivemind. I'm building a new PC. I'm usually an AMD fanboi but I'm plunking down for an i7. Should I get the 8700K or 9700K? Not doing i9. Got a 2080ti vid card to go along with the new rig.

Def go 9700, I would argue i9 if you are going to run max settings in 4k. Most new games will demand that.....but 9700 should do fine now. What games are you rocking?

From what I've been reading, the i9 offers only marginal increase in performance for how much more you're paying.

I agree, It does at the moment BUT future is what you are spending the money on. Most games are written now to use GPU plus CPU....your i9 will take you further down the road. Once they write the code to take advantage of it. But you will need a new motherboard as well.
