    Every year an estimated 8 million tonnes of litter enters the world’s oceans! 😱 It’s not just our marine life at risk; animals like hedgehogs are often injured by getting caught up in litter. Any litter we remove is a HUGE help to the animals that live there.

    You may be wondering - what do birds and mammals eat in winter months when the insects have tucked themselves away? The answer in many cases is nuts, seeds & berries. Some animals like jays and squirrels benefit from the acorns previously stashed away in autumn!

    Normally flowering in spring and summer, Hannah from DWT was surprised to discover this Herb-Robert on Dartmoor. Found in shady spots in woodland, hedgerows and coastal areas, the plant's local names include Bachelor’s Buttons, Stinking Robert and Robin redbreast!

    Golden plovers were spotted at DWT's Emsworthy Mire nature reserve this season, their winter plumage perfectly camouflaged against the moorland. These birds are also often cryptic in flight, their white underside blending in with the pale sky! 📷Andrew Taylor
