Every year an estimated 8 million tonnes of litter enters the world’s oceans!
It’s not just our marine life at risk; animals like hedgehogs are often injured by getting caught up in litter. Any litter we remove is a HUGE help to the animals that live there. #NaturalSolutionspic.twitter.com/t2tGItYaQL

You may be wondering - what do birds and mammals eat in winter months when the insects have tucked themselves away? The answer in many cases is nuts, seeds & berries. Some animals like jays and squirrels benefit from the acorns previously stashed away in autumn!

Normally flowering in spring and summer, Hannah from DWT was surprised to discover this Herb-Robert on Dartmoor. Found in shady spots in woodland, hedgerows and coastal areas, the plant's local names include Bachelor’s Buttons, Stinking Robert and Robin redbreast!

Does your bird feeder need a spruce? Cleaning out bird feeders is extremely important for garden birds’ health and survival. Use cold/warm water and a disinfectant suitable for use with animals. More tips and a video guide here

A big thanks to DWT supporter Jonah (age 7) who donated his pocket money to help Devon's beavers. This donation will help DWT work with landowners and communities so they can happily live alongside beavers which bring benefits to people and wildlife.

It's officially winter! Today is the #WinterSolstice, making it the shortest day and longest night of the year. Here's to frosty mornings, winter wading birds and strange natural phenomena like 'hair ice'! https://buff.ly/3skXrgN

Golden plovers were spotted at DWT's Emsworthy Mire nature reserve this season, their winter plumage perfectly camouflaged against the moorland. These birds are also often cryptic in flight, their white underside blending in with the pale sky!

Robins jump and flutter about on cold mornings, making themselves known with their bright red breast and territorial song.
#DYK that Victorian postmen were known as 'robin red-breasts' because of their red waistcoats?
