You now you are getting old when you have to get your wife to help you climb over this gate to see the thrushes. Thought for one horrible minute I couldn't get back over!!!

Finally seen my first mixed flock of Redwings and Fieldfares for 2020 at Eyebrook Reservoir, about 75 birds. Didn't see any in Norfolk which was unusual. I can hear Tree Sparrows but they are in deep cover.

Red Necked Grebe at Rutland Water still at 13.15 viewed distantly from Teal Hide. Water quite choppy in blustery wind.

Drove further up the hill and viewed the North Arm. Masses of wildfowl in the far left hand corner which would be to the left of the gate and out of sight from the car park. A pair of Red Crested Pochard were amongst the ducks.

A couple just climbed over the gate and flushed ducks in to my restricted view including a drake and female Scaup. Slav.Grebe no doubt still here but I don't fancy climbing over gate just for a trip tick

    Today's date is a rare 8-digit palindrome -- 02/02/2020 -- the only one this century. The last one: 11/11/1111 . . . 909 years ago. The next one: 12/12/2121 . . . 101 years from now.

Got him at last, Green Woodpecker flying across the river after calling continually without showing. My bogey bird ticked.

One of the Little Owls is showing at Deeping St James although both were seen earlier. I think I have heard at least 3 Green Woodies here but still haven't seen one yet.

Like last year we are staying tonight at The Cromwell Hotel March and Paul Larcombe the Elvis tribute act is performing later. We watched him rehearsing and his voice is amazing, almost more Elvis than Elvis. Without wig and jumpsuit though he looks more like the man next door.

I went back to where I heard the Woodlark singing last Sunday and today I estimate there were 5 singing birds. Managed to see 2 on the ground with a 3rd bird singing right above me. Made up for missing a Goshawk earlier.
