Look at the gap here - more than 40% difference between “crime is a problem somewhere else” vs “a problem where they actually live”. Perception vs reality - when it comes to crime, the grass is always brownerpic.twitter.com/y4dmPLnp5N

The scary thing to people about those types of crime is that even though they're rare, they're stochastic, so the point is that they're always somewhere else until they aren't. They could be anywhere at any time. That's scary for people.

But this is roughly correct, most crime occurs in small concentrated areas. That doesn't mean crime in those areas isn't a problem and people are wrong for thinking about crime this way.

For example, where I live in Manhattan is quite safe, but a friend of mine that's from the Bronx was shot 6 times a few weeks ago (he's ok). Am I wrong to diagnose crime as a problem in the Bronx even though it's safe where I live?

That’s too simplistic. 20% of US lives in rural areas w no crime issues. Say half live in suburbs like me. My suburb is fine but ATL has a crime issue. It involves say 20% of the city. So even many ATL citizens could argue crime is a problem somewhere else in ATL.

Crime stats and the actual danger to the public are always torqued by police (since their only goal is to increase their budget)--while media and politicians play along with this lie.

I'm sure it has nothing to do with millions of people fleeing to lower crime areas in the last few years, but especially since the pandemic. 70+ shot in Chicago this weekend and they've periodically driven to suburbs to target elderly populations for car jackings 🙅🏿‍♀️

Take gun homicides, for example. Nationally in the United States, rate is about 4.5 per 100,000 people. Sadly, in some communities, it is significantly higher.pic.twitter.com/aMffKaA0UE
