We had a new paper out last week on emissions from building materials to 2060. Why bother? What did we do? What did we find? What does this mean? A short 🧵

Clean energy transitions must include actions to achieve universal energy & clean cooking access. Our report shows that investment in solar home systems & mini-grids in sub-Saharan Africa must scale-up sharply to achieve universal access by 2030 ➡️

This is thankfully not true. As we reported in the recent IPCC 6th Assessment Report, scenarios that limit us to around 1.8C (with a 66% chance of avoiding 2C) require getting to net-zero emissions by around 2070, not 2030 as this tweet and article inaccurately imply.

Our empirical study on acceptability is available in . Spending revenues on projects maximises support. Mix of low-income compensation & climate projects is also good. Providing information conditionally improves support.

Chalmers is recruiting 11 ... that's right 11 assistant professors. The packages are sweet, the university fantastic, students inspiring and the city is amazing. Also...then we can work together!

But what I'm (personally) most excited about are the insights based on the scenarios that are not yet found - and I hope that by making the data easily accessible together with the notebooks, others can build on our work! (3/3)

Oreane: Looking at net zero, residual emissions remain in some sectors: buildings, industry, transport, agriculture, making us more reliant on BECCS and other CDR options. So can we reduce emissions in the hard-to-abate sectors, how low can we go?
