Hey @YouTube we made a brief ad to promote a commentary track and our t shirts and it got removed for “deceptive practices” even though there was nothing deceptive about it. What gives? @TeamYouTube @YTCreators

it's considered "deceptive" because it's directing traffic away from youtube. they make so little money because advertisers have them by the balls so they have to make any excuse to keep people on youtube and not elsewhere, like bandcamp.

Only if you don't hold the monopoly. If you do, it's good practice. Because nobody has a real choice of ditching youtube, I would say this is good practice.
