It's probably only a question of time before I leave here as well. This kind of rhetoric makes me feel unsafe as an openly queer person. Which is unfortunate, because I owe so much to the science twitter community.

I've been thinking the same thing. It's fun to interact with the community here, but I'm not sure the benefits of being here outweigh the risks to public health by spending any time here.

The bearded one has left the building.
Have been trading thoughts with Derek for, what, fifteen years? A real loss and a sign of the toxicity journalists can see in our DMs.

My plan is to try to make a home at Post.news, and we’ll see how that plays out. If not there, somewhere else after that. Good luck to everyone!

If I have any credibility to lend or usefulness to add, I don’t want to give it to what Twitter is becoming. What that might be is “bankrupt” at the rate things are going, honestly. Anyway, I’ll miss a lot of people here, but I can still be found! (10/)

People have advised just blocking/muting him and others, and that does improve the experience here. But closing my eyes doesn’t make the rising levels of bullshit disappear. In the end, I don’t want to give this platform any more time and energy. (9/)

The levels of misinformation here (medical and otherwise) are increasing, and the site now doesn’t even attempt to do anything about it. Quite the opposite. Its owner is giggling while he cheers the stuff on. Why not? Outrage = clicks and engagement. (7/)

There have always been folks like that on this site, of course. But I used to take time to report their tweets, and the worst of them would get banned. Now Twitter’s owner is stroking their fur and feeding them little treats. (6/)

I am very unhappy about this. I’ve met a lot of great people on this platform and it’s been a valuable source of news and communication over the years. I’ll miss it terribly, and I've been debating this for weeks. But I can’t stay. (2/)

And hundreds of others have been shot or beaten to death without even this legal fiction. . .

Iran has executed protester Mohsen Shekari after convicting him of waging war against God for allegedly injuring a Basij member and blocking a street. Shekari is the first protester to be hanged since antiestablishment protests erupted in September.
