    The high-polygon model for Mario's mustache, seen in the pause menu of Super Mario Odyssey. With 814 triangles, it is nearly as complex as Super Mario 64 Mario's entire model, which had 838 triangles.

    Hard to imagine that Super Mario Bros. 3 was made with less than 15 people. Teams that would be considered indie teams today, where the norm in the 80's/early 90's.

    Ready to feel old? Super Mario Bros. 3 is 30 years old today. It doesn't feel that long, as I can remember the day I bought it and I realized that no platformer on the NES before or after was even half as good as this game was.

    If you have ever looked at the manual for Super Mario Bros., you may remember the Koopa Troopa that introduced the "Secret Tricks" section (left). This Koopa Troopa returns in the manual for the Japanese Super Mario Bros. 2, known internationally as The Lost Levels (right).

    I really do think Mario Maker 2 will get announced/released next year. One of my big predictions. I don't think it particularly matters that New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe is releasing in January. The 2D Mario team is working on something.
