End of 2019 investor reports. I have fond nostalgia for those 3 consoles specifically so it’s fun to see it next to the Switch. What’s most crazy to me is that I feel like the switch still is only getting started, I wonder how far it’ll go.

I see how throwing the player straight in was done to tutorialize them on the core gameplay mechanics, but for this genre of game, I’m curious if players would opt towards talking to optional npcs to learn more, before diving into a dungeon.

Main quirk with the game was the introduction. You’re dropped at a deserted island wondering who/what/where/why for the first 20 min of gameplay. After completing first dungeon + boss, you arrive at a town with NPCs which helped give more direction and familiarity with the world.pic.twitter.com/7tLfxHESLE

So the end of the game felt extra satisfying for the amount of final boss attempts I had to do. It's been a while where a game surprised me like that at the end. If you enjoy platformer games and never got around to this title like I did, it still holds up! Really recommend :D

I illustrated my experience in a graph below lol. Cave Story did fantastic teaching the mechanics and getting me better at the game. But wow, difficulty spike. I hit a wall on the final boss. Two of my top games growing up were SMB3 and SMW. I'm noticing more that I really enjoy platforming games which require skilled gameplay, but also involve characters & plot to get a player invested in the world.
