APOLOGY Earlier today I tweeted a petition about an Islington Council ban against the Blockheads performing with their chosen line up. The council has blocked jazz musician Gilad Atzmon from playing with the group.

I don't understand people who are claiming this is evidence of Labour antisemitism. How many of us have signed a petition in good faith without researching further than the wording of the petition? He opposes antisemitism which is why he has quite rightly explained and apologised
-
Maybe, but Chris has not been careful a number of times. I really think he’s got to be much better than this.
-
Or maybe Gilad is being smeared like Jeremy corbyn?https://www.counterpunch.org/2013/02/01/the-case-of-gilad-atzmon/ …
-
I’ll rephrase that Gilad HAS been smeared by the usual suspects and now he is blacklisted. In the 50s he would have been called a communist now he’s... well you know. He’s a man of love and peace and I suggest you enjoy his music rather than fall for trickshttps://m.youtube.com/watch?v=G4c2U-KN67k&feature=youtu.be …

You’re only human Chris. We all make mistakes. Solidarity with you X

-
He’s paid large sums to not make simple mistakes, but to research and make educated decisions. This was incredibly simple, completely unresearched and a very poor decision. And you just write it off. That’s a poor judgment.
-
Come on. He just signed a petition.
-
Which doesn’t undo anything I said.
-
No, it just highlights it as an overreaction.
-
Quite. Which of us can say we have never encouraged people to sign a petition backing a holocaust denier?
-
I don't think it's an overreaction. Part of a politicians job is in making sure they understand what they are talking about, and that extends to social media posts. It'd be equally stupid if it were another profession.
-
People make statements on the basis of incomplete information all the time. Otherwise we'd never say anything. If new evidence arises, decent people consider it and, if appropriate, change their minds and apologize if necessary. Far worse are those who deny.

@GiladAtzmon is not an antisemite Chris! He's only guilty of criticising the Israeli Apartheid State, which quite frankly needs criticising.#BDS -
No, he's an antisemite

I would imagine 99.9% of supporters of Palestine R certainly not antisemitic. In principle - we might all object to the Council banning a Palestinian Supporter: I.e. Unless we know the musician very well - it is impossible to know if they are antisemitic. Easy mistake on Twitter.
-
Gilad Atzmon is a Jew - they can call him a self hating Jew - he has very controversial views on Judaism & Zionism - I disagree with his views, but calling him anti-Semite is a smear & slander -

You get vilified for a mistake while Johnson gets exonerated for his letter box "joke" Anybody'd imagine there was bias being shown.
