APOLOGY Earlier today I tweeted a petition about an Islington Council ban against the Blockheads performing with their chosen line up. The council has blocked jazz musician Gilad Atzmon from playing with the group.

Further to my statement above, I realise it's helpful to issue this further clarification.pic.twitter.com/V6oXi4NQ6e

Dear Chris, you won't find a single antisemitic statement in my entire work! I am probably as antisemitic as Corbyn or yourself. In other words we are antisemitic in the minds of those who oppose our criticism of Israeli politics!
-
Opposing Israeli laws that impose second class citizenship to its Arab and Palestinian population is the moral, ethical and right thing to do. Supporting these policies, in any way, including silencing criticism, is a crime against justice, human dignity and God himself.

If this is true, you shouldn’t have signed a petition for him. Did you think, “ no, someone’s been accused of antisemitism: it must be a smear so I’ll support him”? You’re a Labour MP; you need to do some research before you sign a petition defending someone accused of racism.
-
And if it’s true, it shows shockingly low awareness of contemporary British antisemitism, a topic on which you comment often enough.

Well said Chris. I signed it too without checking & now regret it. AS is not acceptable so thanks for calling it out. Sorry you're getting stick for this, sometimes you can't win

-
What made you sign it?
-
I agreed with the write-up on the petition, which conveniently left out that the man has this history.
-
And this, ladies and gentlemen, is why petitions circulated on social media should be treated as worthless.

Ah. You were unaware that Gilad Atzmon was an antisemite when you signed and shared a petition against him being banned from appearing over his antisemitism. Makes sense Chris. Just watch out for speed cameras and your future in Labour is guaranteed.
-
He clearly was as he has already said so. It was a mistake made without full facts. Tories however support Orban unashamedly knowing full well he is a Far-Right Antisemite.
-
Bless.

The twitter and Instagram timeline of the person who made the complaint against
@GiladAtzmon are full of anti-Arab hatred and threats of violence against both Palestinians and@jeremycorbynpic.twitter.com/FR1tuZn1ytThis media may contain sensitive material. Learn more
