APOLOGY Earlier today I tweeted a petition about an Islington Council ban against the Blockheads performing with their chosen line up. The council has blocked jazz musician Gilad Atzmon from playing with the group.

As soon as I was informed, I deleted the tweet. I've always condemned all forms of racism, including antisemitism, and strongly disassociate myself from Atzmon's antisemitic views. I therefore apologise for tweeting this petition and any distress or offence it may have caused.

Further to my statement above, I realise it's helpful to issue this further clarification.pic.twitter.com/V6oXi4NQ6e

If you didn’t know anything about him why did you sign the petition? Did you think Islington had randomly decided to ban a jazz musician for playing jazz?
-
Do you know "everything" about ALL petitions that you sign,
@HadleyFreeman? -
Do you sign any petition that comes your way without asking what it’s about?
-
You did not answer my question but responded with a q. For clarity, I sign those that I want to and DO NOT claim to read all details. ◙ Do you claim to read ALL details of petitions?
-
You know, you can support Corbyn and not break your back defending every clearly idiotic thing his friends and colleagues do, OK? It does Corbyn no favours
-
Now you are personalising it. How does corbyn comes into this? Are you losing the plot or need a break?

I strongly dislike his language and some of his politics. But I guess you might baulk at calling an Israeli Jewish man an “anti-Semite”. In any case if it’s not right to organise boycotts of Israël why is it right to deny a Sax-player the right to earn his living playing the Sax?

I believe you Chris. You didn't know about Atzmon. Corbyn didn't get a good look at the mural. He didn't lay the wreath & anyway it wasn't a terrorist. He didn't say stupid woman. I believe in Santa Claus. Hell, I'm Jewish, but if the rest could be true, Santa is worth a punt.

"I'm not going to say whether it is right or not to burn down a synagogue, I can see that it is a rational act." - Gilad Atzmon "We must begin to take the accusation that the Jewish people are trying to control the world very seriously" - Gilad Atzmon
-
Yes if Atzmon has said it then it is unacceptable. There is no excuse for burning any place of worship. But that quote is not something that was widely shared or known. Chris has apologised so that should be the end of the matter.
-
It's on his wikipedia page, under the huge section called "Allegations of racism and antisemitism". Hardly hidden away. Why did Chris think Gilad was being banned from playing, if he didn't know about the antisemitism?
-
This is the first time I’ve seen the wiki page on Gilad. Yes, some of his views are known and he is even opposed by
@TonyGreenstein for some reasons. Then again Tony is also expelled. And so is@Marcwads . Which is why implicating Chris smells of a witch hunt by the Israel lobby -
Chris implicated himself. No-one made him sign or share that petition. Why did he think Gilad was banned, if not for antisemitism? This is a very important question.
-
Oh come on. There are many many figures who are wrongly ostracised. Not least Ken, Jackie, Tony, Marc etc. Are you saying they are also antisemitic ? Cos they certainly are NOT.
-
Ken is antisemitic, Jackie probably, Tony is a racist. Marc is the only one of those four whose expulsion was in any way questionable, and even then his conduct was unacceptable. We're not going to agree on this, and given your history of Jew-baiting, let's leave it here.
