Archives Queer Eye:
Bobby: I put all your stuff in blue and gray boxes
Tan: Spacers give your folders a nice shape
Jonathan: Literally just take off those gloves, you don't need them for paper
Karamo: How are your EAC relationships?
Antoni: Let's make a simple DIP

In case it wasn't clear from that last tweet--I'm actually doing well! I don't know what's next for my career but everything else in my life is so much better since the move.

Hi #LISMentalHealth! My last job absolutely wrecked my mental health and I've been unemployed for a year+ after moving across the country. Still figuring out what's next for me.

I'm a historian and an archivist, and I am here to tell you it's not the inability to read handwriting *generally* that causes young researchers problems. It's that most people, of every generation, have absolutely shit handwriting skills.

Can we have a Journal for Halfway Done, Abandoned Papers? In the abstract, you explain why you quit working on it.

If anyone got a l1nked1n update from me I have no news, just realized my profile said I was still at the place I left in 2017.

Hi all, I'm interested in hearing from or about archivists who transitioned to other rewarding careers with good work-life balance. Do RT, and thanks.

I don't dream about archives much anymore but last night there was a giant lobster loose in the stacks.

HERE’S a free pitch idea for you, editors/feminist journos: a history of the lists & methods women have used to keep each other safe from predators (anonymous broadsheets??) or even just of bathroom lists like this. Eg the infamous “rape wall” at Brown in the early 90s. twitter.com/JuliusGoat/sta

I think most of #archives Twitter knows the thread I’m referencing but the question of what it costs to digitize something like a scrapbook has responses with major Lucile Bluth energy

Also, if you are not comfortable reaching out for a salary range, @nempnetwork will do it for you! **following a brief summer hiatus for our amazing team** docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAI

Plus, I wasted 4+ staff people's time on a question that apparently no one was able to answer anyway. Just post a salary range next time, kthxbye

This whole thing took about an hour of my time, not including time spent waiting for people to call me back. I can't imagine doing this over and over on top of all the other work that goes into a job search.

Success! Kind of. This person emailed me back right away, but said there was no salary range (and of course the school's salaries are competitive with peers/for the region, yadda yadda yadda).

They called me back anyway (caller ID) and said I would need to talk to the chair of the search. I tried to call that person but also couldn't leave a message. I went back to the job posting and emailed the person listed there.

I called this other department, and the person I spoke to said they don't have salary information for faculty searches. Had I tried contacting the hiring department? I tried calling the Library Administration office but couldn't leave a voicemail.

I started with the school's HR department, and the person I spoke to on the phone told me they literally didn't have access to the salary information for this position. They suggested I talk to a different department that's involved with faculty hiring.

For context, this is a job in academic libraries/archives with faculty status. AFAICT there's no publicly available information about salary ranges that would apply to this position.

For a while I've been saying I'll contact employers about salary ranges (so people actually applying for those jobs can stay anonymous. Someone finally took me up on it and it was a trip!

On behalf of archivists everywhere, thank you for pushing back and acknowledging the library work behind your scholarship. (Not the point of this great thread, but the reverse happens so often it's worth mentioning.)

Annual shout out to my mom, who said she wanted a small filing cabinet for mother's day when working on her dissertation. My dad got her a microwave. For two weeks she left several manila folders in it and wouldn't let anyone use it -- until my dad procured a filing cabinet.
