    The UK's NCSC (defensive branch of GCHQ) have put their draft "Secure Communication Principles" on Github for public review! Alas, they seem to be forbidden from mentioning 'end to end encryption' leading to some tortured phrasing...

    Presumably you put in an additional (malicious) curve description. The signature verification logic for the cert uses the honest curve description. However, the (signed) public key is instantiated over the malicious curve description.

    Looks like an invalid curve attack. Take a legit/signed pub key. Claim its over a curve of your choice. Cert verifies. And you know the secret key over that malicious curve.

    The advice I continue giving folks looking into PhD programs is to look for an advisor who is kind. Don’t look for the “most brilliant” advisor. Look for the person who is kind, who mentors you, lifts you up. And pro-tip: kind folks are usually the most brilliant.
