Same as the UK. They dip-sample and then extrapolate the results.

Don’t think that quite covers reports like from Bradford , several new cases all believed to be the Indian variant, impossible to say that unless they were all sequenced, just bollocks, scaremongering.

Not surprised. Historically, the CDC prefers to serve as a centralized data aggregator / gatekeeper. Easier to control the narrative when the public has no access to the data.
