It is pointless outside certain areas of Wales and sections of Welsh society.

I met a lovely lady from Japan at ysgol hâf (that's summer school to you boots) one year. She wanted to learn a language for fun. She chose Welsh. She had no one in Japan to talk to in Welsh. But she travelled half way across the world to a 2 week course for broadening her mind.

We shouldn't be surprised at this ignorance so long as the education system in England doesn't educate its pupils about the history, culture and language of the country right next door to it. It is all about poor education.
