Does it occur to you that when employed families are in tears that they cannot put food on the table after only missing one paycheck, maybe there is a bigger problem than the shutdown? These are not people at the poverty level. We spend more than we earn as a general rule.

I agree we have a cultural issue with thrift, and it is not tied to individual political philosophy IME. But family circumstances put even the thrifty in that position - young, ill, caretaking, recent life change.. The less their work is valued, the more likely they'll be there
