While you might not like his assessment, the truth it small farms do face a tougher time maintaining profitability vs their larger counterparts. Economy of scale is a real thing, regardless of what federal policy may be.
What surprised me at the Ag Committee hearing was Sec. Perdue’s lack of commitment to family farms and our rural quality of life. What should concern you more is NY farms, of all sizes, faces some of the highest property taxes in the nation. That our minimum wage puts all our farms at a competitive disadvantage and impacts our smallest farms the most who can’t afford in many cases to hire help anymore.
