It is worth noting most people on Medicare draw social security & the premiums are deducted. Additionally, baseline Medicare is a circa 1966 BC/BS 80-20 Indemnity Insurance Plan. May not be a feasible proposal.

They talk of "Medicare for All", in part, because that program is "liked" by most folks. "Medicaid for All", even if truer to how a single payer plan would work, makes folks think of "poor people insurance" or "last resort care". I'm less invested in the name than in the plan.

Opting into Medicare is probably not a viable option for most people. Further, it undermines group plans by encouraging employers to drop them, as PPACA tended to;
