- Call for the immediate passage of bipartisan legislation to protect the investigation conducted by Robert Mueller. @JohnFasoNy has indicated he supports this investigation but has yet to make it clear that he would sign on to this legislation. Why not?
- Unlike @JohnFasoNy, I would have voted for renewed election security funding at a time when our own U.S. national security and intelligence experts tell us Russia is actively meddling in our democratic processes. @JohnFasoNy voted no for that funding.
Finally, I do not, as @JohnFasoNy has indicated, understand the "impatience" some people have expressed around the length of the Mueller investigation. This investigation has led to charges against more than 30 people, incl 26 Russian nationals, 5 Americans & 3 Russian businesses
In total, 32 people have been indicted, five of whom have pleaded guilty. Clearly, the length of the investigation has proven very fruitful and should not be viewed with skepticism.
It is important to not forget that our Founding Fathers intended for Congress to be a co-equal branch of government. Now more than ever, Congress has the responsibility to live up to its obligations under the Constitution.
Which means not sitting by idly or remaining silent in the face of what is a clear and ongoing foreign threat and an Administration that appears unwilling to uphold its solemn duty to protect, preserve and secure our nation. #NY19
