David Buss, pioneer of evolutionary psychology, acknowledges that women are probably not shopping for good genes when engaging in casual sex. He had been a co-founder of said hypothesis. https://bura.brunel.ac.uk/handle/2438/16165 …pic.twitter.com/JFIumCmfQj

Also, 79% of women - but only a third of men - who have affairs report falling in love with their affair partner, which, too, doesn't jibe with the good genes hypothesis. It is more consistent with the mate switching hypothesis. https://bura.brunel.ac.uk/handle/2438/16165 …pic.twitter.com/NGT3WYIQqj

What if falling in love with someone with good genes is a byproduct of the attractiveness to good genes? Eg in theory people should not have any bias; in practice, they do, because biases, tho irrational, are necessary to ensure that important behaviors are consistently enacted.

Does the failure of the good gene hypothesis have relevance to human cuckoldry?

There's an alternative to this... Maybe it's both. A combined gene hypothesis + mate switching model would be epigenetically sound and capture a rather realistic interaction between subtle biological factors and social/resource factors.
