Robert Richardson rebutted this in his book. Most spiders offer little risk to humans. Most arent venomous. Those that are venomous aren't in Africa. One quarter of snakes in Uganda pose a threat to humans but there is geographic variability.Most venomous snakes are in Australia.
In both the snake and spider case, these fear mechanisms would need to evolve due to threat of a minority, which is clearly exaggerated to make the case the we have an evolved fear of snakes and spiders.
