I don't see any paradox. Nazi's were romantics who revered nature which they sought to protect. Some people though, especially the Jews, were regarded as degenerate and unnatural (in a sense all civilization is anti-nature). So the genocide on Jews was like weeding out the weed.

@DegenRolf It is actually consistent in my view. Animals represent docile creatures, and when not, a representation of the spirit moved by pure instinct, docile then to "Mother nature". -
The German state represents the "Father" and a good German was a good cog, to be moved by the instinct and the will of the state. Animals then represent the ideal citizen, phisically strong, reacting on instinct, pure force to be unleashed by the will of the Volk.

It seems a very good stratagem for a convincing the population that they were truly humane while they inflicted the horrors that they did behind closed doors , at least as long as they could keep them closed.
