In developed countries you don't need to work in IT to have a decent life. That's why women here choose professions they like instead of those that pay well.

Do you know what’s peculiar about the “Let’s get girls in STEM” movement? Many of the loudest voices never did any STEM. Hmmm...

The whole point of science & maths lessons wasbto get more marks than the boys (Except in maths, where unusually the reliable best was a girl) the competition was alway boys. Boys also make nice, uncomplicated, get the job done lab partners.

My biology master didn’t think that! He had a very stereotypical view of what a “bright girl” should be like. I was a sore disappointment & always in trouble. That’s why I have a biology degree. Only way to shut him up was to be top in every test/exam.

Absolutely, I never found out if he tried to discipline other classes by finding other chn to pick on. I was incredibly lucky, to be clever, very thick skinned & to have a class who happily teased me, but weren’t going to let a teacher go too far.

That’s sad. I’m trying to open a STEAM Cafe after school program in my community.

Nurture Assumption Klaxon: "We also find that women with STEM-educated mothers are unaffected by the gender composition, which suggests that salient female role models may be able to counteract peer pressures in high school."

If it was nature you would expect to see a decrease of the peer sensibility and not a straight vanishing of the effect(complex behavioral traits are polygenic hence moderately inheritable).
