Just hearing the word "unconscious" makes me sick. Whenever there is some psychologist saying they have a mode for deciphering the unconscious, I know it is a sleight of hand, or an outright scam.

Maybe “subconscious” is the better word. But we’re in agreement that most of what the brain does is below the level of consciousness, right?

Yea, but it is not dynamic, like having repressed motives, which is half digested Freudian bullshit.

Not sure what you mean by “ “dynamic” in this context.

How would you respond to Kahneman’s work?

As far as I know, the only thing in his work connected to unconscious processes was priming - which he has recanted recently as bogus:https://twitter.com/DegenRolf/status/832484413602553856 …

          (1) IMO, you're misreading what he said. He conceded (as psychologists should) that many studies are difficult to replicate. But he hasn't renounced that we're largely the products of unconscious processes. And you would concede it makes evolutionary sense?

          2. What about evolution doesn't emphasize efficiency? Why wouldn't humans, in the state of nature, be biased. The point isn't to "be fair". The point is to survive and reproduce.

I disagree. Most of his work over a lifetime involves subconscious processing, and not just ordinary priming. Do you really believe your decision making has no subconscious input? We are that set apart from other animals? When did the brain lose this ability?

You will further note in the passage you cited about the “chapter” he does not renounce the idea of priming. He merely dials back the power of it.
