I've just read this, Ember&Ember 94, Ember&Ember 05, & crucially Winship&Mare 84 on use of mult regression w ordinal variable->
and I'm not convinced of the ability of the original 186-culture dataset to support these conclusions w the specificity implied->
a) tons of missing data w some key comparisons (eg rape reporting) based on 8 or 14 cultures b) ordinal data on 3 levels, later->
coalesced into a composite, & c) potential & seemingly unexamined statistical continuity assumptions for underlying variables ->
I'm not an anthropologist nor a (multiple regression with ordinal variables) expert, but there is a lot of complex stuff->
going on here that ought to be critically examined by someone who does more than tweet abstracts. Enjoy your day, Rolf.
Thanks. I like the idea of people critically examining the studies I post here. But I never post the abstracts, I read the whole articles and extract the best points, as an invitation to post peer review.
