These broad, vague statements are so useless I don't even know why people find them interesting. Sometimes small-talk is good, sometimes it is soul-crushing, and some people need it more, and some need it less. The general statement is just plain not meaningful or interesting.
I have to hunt down the effect size to see if any of this is meaningful, but it's not worth my time.
Garbage? Not to me. Was once fooled by parent's 'Small Talk', frustrated they avoided deep convos. Failed to see ST was their shared, historical and topographical narrative; eventually, my adopted platform for comparison/adaptation across space/time.
Psychology is garbage.
