That's certainly possible, but the paper's authors view "strong social stigma surrounding CNM" as a problem. The IAT is a very lousy proxy for anything, but the idea that stated attitudes, behaviour can be in conflict with deeper desires is most likely sound regardless.

Suppose one wanted to test that hypothesis, how would you go about it? I honestly don't know, since I'm not a psychologist.
