I think moderate drinking relieves stress which is far more corrosive to health in my uninformed opinion
The dilemma is likely that so many people can't/don't drink only moderately and there are serious societal consequences to that, so there's a fear to teach moderation.

Seventh Day Adventists don't drink alcohol and have a decreased risk for mortality.
