Contrary to the lesson of the famous Libet experiment, free will is not a slave of the readiness potential. http://www.jneurosci.org/content/38/4/784?etoc …pic.twitter.com/bI1xAyvFx6

The decision to cancel the RP to move the finger likely involves the same process as the decision to move a finger, i.e. RP, lag, awareness. You're still merely a witness of the desire to change ur mind about the movement, just as you were about the urge to move in the 1st place.

I don't get how being able to cancel a movement proves you are free to do what you want. It doesn't matter how it's done, and how we are conscious of it, you still can only make limited choices based on environmental factors and genes. We are not free. But we FEEL free.

How is this contrary to it? Didn’t Libet interpret the lagtime as proof not of free will (or determinism) but as “free won’t” — conscious ability to stop the action?

Ah yes, but if we can cancel a movement, are we really self-producing the thoughts that lead to that cancellation?

Physicalism, however, is not logically compatible with subjective experience.

So you're saying illusory subjective experience is incompatible with physicalism?

An illusion is itself a subjective experience. Cogito, etc. If it's not real there's nobody to be deluded. To rephrase, "Physicalism is only incompatible with subjective experience if you call the latter an illusion." But you don't believe the latter is an illusion?
