Murray et al. (2016) in Intl Jnl Epidemiology had a three times larger study (n=3618) and found the association. I think that "bites the dust" is rather inappropriate for a single null result.

It is always a question of the order of magnitude. In big samples also small effects can appear significant. The OR's Murray et al. (2006) report, account for 1-2% of the variance, at most. Nonetheless, an impressive study by Murray et al., regarding sample size and methodology.
