Good point. This shifts the dichotomy from employment vs. happiness to happiness vs. dependency - financial independence costs happiness, but might still be worth it.

There are always outliers, but I think most women would prefer to be homemakers -- if they weren't radically isolated as they are nowadays. We need to restore the extended family and culturally homogeneous neighborhoods so homemakers have adults around them during the day.

They control for “household income”, which makes me wonder: hhincome could be a confounder (rich hubby->stay at home mum) but also a mediator (employed mum->higher income->higher satisfaction).
