In my experience, many women now speak in the vocal fry register, about as low in pitch as they can. At least in the parts of the U. S. I’ve spent time in of late.
Eventually sexual selection will mean all men must speak lower than Leonard Cohen sang in his 60's to 80's. Which is going to be a toughie.
Deeper correlated to more confident: it is the case for men, not so clearly for women. This psychosociological interpretation is unwarranted.
