Yes, it is a strong effect observed around the world. It could be evidence of sexual selection. With men, oddly, being less religious, but more likely to be religious authorities.
Most early adopters are men. Social risk-taking has no reproductive upside for women.
Or maybe it’s easier for men to take on the stigma of being an open atheist compared to women because men have structural advantages that can buffer against some loss of status.

Given that most people have the same religious beliefs as their parents, how do women versus men more generally share beliefs with their parents?
People are educated to be religious or arthritic. Gender is hardly an issue.
