Many therapists say "therapeutic alliance" does. But we can't know, as therapies are not tested against placebo, but against a wait list control Which is a nocebo (waiting is bad), i,e. hanging the bar way too low, as everything is better than a wait list, even praying.

It's a system designed to fail in order to incentivise pharmaceutical treatments. Furthermore, this is exactly what should be expected of patients are on antidepressants. Unless people are willing to radically change behavior, sources of poor mental health override therapy.
