The effect of genes on individual differences in political preferences is stronger than that of the shared environment, the epitome of "nurture", and it increases with age https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s10519-017-9879-6 …pic.twitter.com/6KvRhDIHDC

Interesting, health seems to have the opposite pattern. Lifestyle + environment become more important with age.

Heritability of IQ strongly increases with age, from 58% in youth to 82% in senior age in the Munich Gold study.

This old text is about searching single genes, not about heritability, which is very sound science. Also, SciAm has turned into horribly bad science reporting, sorrilly. .

I suspect that in a multiethnic sample in the US genetic effects would be swamped by identity politics, resulting in DZ co-twin similarity within race.

Another paper highlighted the heritability of iq and academic achievement for which heresy @TeachFirst removed a @toadmeister article from their website

I think this research is intriguing and very suggestive. I'll keep an open mind about the findings and I look forward to seeing how this field develops over the years. In these days of instant takes I suppose my wait-and-see approach, which used to be common, is rarely expressed.

🤔 i get the experimental design but somehow this doesn't jibe with the frequent occurrence of people whose views change in conjunction with their environment. could the genetic effect be stronger with some (we'd call them "independent thinkers") and weaker with other?

My hypothesis is that trait autonomy predicts political affiliation.
