Research on 'implicit bias' -- the idea that people are full of unconscious sexism and racism -- is suffering a massive replication crisis.https://twitter.com/DegenRolf/status/871780874282520578 …

My diagnostic indicator of skeptic versus cynic in the replication movement is their assessment of the implicit bias literature. @DegenRolf

Clearly not enough info on my part! My simplification was "cynic" just believes the worst of everything - e.g., implicit bias/IAT=invalid.

"skeptic" questions everything, but takes evid. seriously. Eg, there is highly replicable evidence & good construct validity of IAT effects>

And parts of the literature for which the evidence is very uncertain or messy. eg., understanding conditions of predictive validity.

Seems fair. So implicit bias is a valid concept but at present has very little predictive validity over explicit bias?

Depends on what you are predicting. eg., Implicit political identity predicts voting intentions and evaluations of partisan policies well.

and other things weakly. No good theory yet accounts for the conditions of weaker<>stronger predictive validity.

Still, I think people should know your involvement in this thing. Should it be allowed to decide over life chances? https://www.amazon.com/Blindspot-Hidden-Biases-Good-People/dp/0345528433/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1496936124&sr=8-1&keywords=anthony+greenwald …pic.twitter.com/HUvvgj6zsN

Yes, I am still involved. Decide over life chances? No, we have opposed diagnostic applications since beginning. eg, https://pdfs.semanticscholar.org/2713/1e75672861070806e7d04c91901eeb623c98.pdf …
