I actually suffer from this ... I can't see anything in my head at all. I compensate by thinking analogically.

If you abruptly close your eyes, can't you call up residuals of the world you saw just right before?

I have aphantasia. For me, (invisible) spatial imagination is an important part of my memory and experience. When I imagine people, I imagine their gestures, the subtle dynamics of their facial expressions, their posture. When I remember a place, I remember spatial relationships.

by the way, I know my aphantasia is real because I once experienced vivid inner vision during a session of craniosacral therapy. There was a huge difference between seeing that full imagery in my minds eye and the fleeting, dark wisps of dull nothingness I ordinarily experience.
