Moral judgments about right and wrong share a common brain substrate with aesthetic judgments about beautiful and ugly. https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0010945220301714 …pic.twitter.com/Zi56QI8M79

So Immanuel Kant's Third Critique was pretty prescient then?

Mini fact.. Right meant straight, 'wrong' meant crooked, twisted = Aesthetic metaphor is right there in the word origins. Often heard complaint that ppl confuse moral with whatever seems nice. Even greek philos did it.. fascinating to see it shown that's how the brain rigs it

A neuropsychological basis of the “halo effect” & the “horn effect”? I suppose that’s why smartly dressed & physically attractive people are seen as morally upright & intelligent. https://twitter.com/kiirukikuyu/status/1260263276656701443?s=21 …https://twitter.com/kiirukikuyu/status/1260263276656701443 …

It’s a faulty heuristic. Comparable to the “halo effect”. Attractive people are viewed as being more intelligent & more likeable. Conversely, the “horn effect” works the exact opposite way. Unattractive people are viewed as being morally aberrant & dumb. pic.twitter.com/d2dHOlMuuV

Is tis why it's hard to see beauty in things we find unacceptable? Are artists who see beauty in dark places more morally liberal?

@TomVMorris @PeterSinger @jimwallis Can we find our moral compass ever again? Nixon pretended. Nixon’s men refused to lie to Congress, at least when the rule of law was invoked. Trump is eviscerating governance and kindness.

At the end of the day it is just dopamine. What makes an individual feel good is labelled as addiction. Opium of the masses is labelled as 'morality'.
