My mother grew up in London during World War II. She was 6 when the war started, so she didn't remember much from before it. She said she was sad that the spirit of cooperation people had during the war disappeared after it. She didn't miss doodlebugs though.

I was born just before the Croatian Independence War in the 90's and, even though I never want to witness any of that ever again, I do remember the sense of camaraderie and togetherness. It doesn't come cheap.

Steady on. Supermarket wine is much the same stuff as you get in restaurants, and more reasonably priced. And I'm healthier than I've been for a few years, by not drinking it.

Pain, anxiety & stress flush out all feelings of ennui or meaningless. Maybe that’s why people see horrible situations that didn’t completely traumatize them as exciting & invigorating?
