Specificity to women, for one. Men go more for physical attractiveness, which is salient and needs no social validation by others.

while I was still an academic, I led a study showing that mate-copying in women depended on quantity of information they possessed about men. The less information they had, the more they were likely to find paired men attractive. Quite consistent with social information theory.

I find it interesting how alot of these findings support what we already know intuitively.

“Mate copying” is observable in men & animals too. Perhaps that’s why women find fame & status in men so appealing.pic.twitter.com/9ndSJ85THX

I wonder if it has been studied if the attraction for a male is further enhancened when several of those previous partners happen to be very attractive women. Empirically and culturally we have many indications that this would also be true.

Did this really need a study? Isn't it just common knowledge?

This is useful for coping. Men can still go on thinking they’re great and blame disappointing outcomes on others.
